"Tom Fothergill"

“Geoff Catterall’s grandson Tom Fothergill, who has ballet lessons both in Chorley and at the Royal Ballet School in Denton Manchester, auditioned to take the part of Billy Elliot, in the stage show of that name, in late 2012. He got through to the last 6 but was considered too small to take the part as Billy Elliot is 13 and Tom was at the time only 10.

However, as he is now 11 and will be moving on to Secondary School in September, it was suggested to his parents that he should consider going as a boarder to the Royal Ballet School in either London or Birmingham. He audition for both in January and had a second Audition for Both last week. In both cases he was one of 24 boys competing for 12 places as they only take on 12 boys and 12 girls each year.

We found out on Friday the 8th March that he has been accepted for The London Royal Ballet school which is in Richmond Park and is the premier Ballet School in the UK.

Tom’s other Granddad, Dennis Fothergill, is also a member of the same Craft Lodge as Geoff.”
